About this position

Postdoctoral Research Position in auditory categorization, systems neuroscience, electrophysiology, optogenetics, and rodent behavior at the Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon (CRNL), France.

The lab of Pierre Le Merre is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a 2-year fixed-term position funded by the ATIP-Avenir program. The project focuses on the neuronal circuit mechanisms underlying auditory categorization, combining Neuropixels high-density recordings, optogenetic perturbations, viral tracing, and behavioral paradigms in head-fixed mice.

The postdoc will play a central role in work packages on spatial auditory categories and flexible auditory categorization, including behavioral training, simultaneous recordings in auditory cortex and prefrontal regions, optogenetic experiments, histology, and large-scale neural data analysis. Methods mentioned include SpikeInterface, Kilosort, population decoding, support vector machines, logistic regression, and tensor component analysis.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a closely related field; experience with in vivo electrophysiology, rodent behavioral training, or optogenetics; strong programming skills in Python, Julia, or MATLAB; ability to work independently; strong English communication skills. Experience with Neuropixels, spike sorting, viral injections, histology, machine learning, and auditory paradigms is highly desirable.

Funding: 2-year secured funding through ATIP-Avenir, with a salary of about 2,440 EUR/month net according to the INSERM/CNRS postdoctoral scale, commensurate with experience. The post also mentions support for conference attendance and career development, plus possible extension.

How to apply: Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line [Postdoc Application — Sound Categorization]. Include a cover letter, CV with publications and conference contributions, and contact details for 2–3 referees. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Institution: Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon (CRNL), INSERM U1028 / CNRS UMR5292, Lyon, France. Supervisor: Pierre Le Merre (CRNL, Universite Claude Bernard Lyon 1).
