About this position
Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Environmental Exposure Screening at the Medical Research Council / LMS in London, United Kingdom.
This is a postdoctoral opening focused on building new screening platforms to study how environmental chemicals and exposures affect tissues and disease. The project sits in the Tissue Biology Group and combines molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, computational biology, and high-dimensional biological data analysis.
The successful candidate will help establish exposure screening capability using either an in vitro strand (organoids, primary cells, or other advanced human-relevant culture systems with multiplexed sequencing-based readouts) or an in vivo strand (novel screening approaches in tissue; hands-on animal work and a UK Home Office personal licence are required for this strand).
The role is a mixed wet/dry lab post: you will generate data at the bench, analyse large screening and sequencing datasets, and contribute to method development, publication, and collaboration. The group highlights interests in toxicology, exposomics, mutagenesis, environmental health, mutational signatures, DNA methylation, clonal dynamics, and reproducible workflows.
Funding: £42,694 per annum plus London allowance (£5,560), plus additional training and settlement allowances. The post is fixed term for 3 years and full-time.
Requirements: PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field; wet-lab experience; ability to code in R and/or Python; evidence of research project delivery; and, for the in vivo strand, animal work experience and a personal licence or readiness to obtain one.
How to apply: Apply online via the UKRI Careers portal, upload a CV, two scientific references, and a cover letter. Quote reference LMS 2958. Closing date: 25 October 2026.

Candidates must have hands-on wet-lab experience in molecular and/or cell biology, evidence of planning and carrying out research projects, experience with high-dimensional biological data, and the ability to write and apply code in R and/or Python. For the in vivo strand, established hands-on animal work and either a current UK Home Office personal licence or equivalent experience with readiness to obtain one are required. Desirable requirements include first-author publication/preprint/manuscript, screen design and analysis experience, organoid or advanced in vitro culture experience, NGS library prep, laboratory automation, HPC familiarity, and knowledge of toxicology/exposomics/mutagenesis/environmental health.
How to apply
Apply online through the UKRI Careers portal before the closing date. Submit a CV, names and contacts of two scientific references, and a cover letter explaining why you are applying and addressing the job requirements. Quote reference number LMS 2958.
