About this position

University of Oxford is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Severe Infection Genomics within an NHS Genomic Network of Excellence (GNoE) focused on the severe presentation of infectious and immune disease.

The role sits in a work package advancing host immune profiling using omics and related approaches for critically ill patients. The successful candidate will analyse host genomic sequencing data and pathogen metagenomics, develop computational and statistical methods, and build code and informatics resources for large-scale data integration.

This post is ideal for researchers with interests in genomics, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, computational biology, pathogen metagenomics, and scientific computing. The postholder will manage their own academic research, contribute to new research ideas and funding opportunities, and help produce scientific publications and presentations.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD/DPhil in Genetics, Genomics, Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics and Physics, Computer Science, or a related discipline; experience with high-throughput genomic data and functional genomics; and competence in at least one programming language. Strong analytical, quantitative, communication, and organisational skills are also required.

The position is full time, fixed term until 31 March 2028, and funded by the NHS. The work location is Oxford, England, United Kingdom. Applications must be submitted online before 13 October 2026 at 12 midday. Applicants should upload only a CV and supporting statement, and quote reference 186720.
