About this position
The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, Portugal is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher – Advanced Materials and Thin-Film Technologies (Ref. 31.26.436) for the Salomé Research Group. This is a full-time, 24-month appointment starting in December 2026.
The successful candidate will work on the MI3S project, which aims to advance research and technological development in innovative materials, functional thin films, and their integration into advanced devices and systems. The role combines materials engineering, experimental characterisation, and process optimisation to develop technological solutions with potential industrial applications.
Key responsibilities include conducting independent scientific research, developing and validating advanced materials and thin-film fabrication processes, performing experimental investigations and quantitative analysis of process–structure–property relationships, designing experimental methodologies, and supporting the integration of developed materials into demonstrators and prototype devices. The postdoc will also prepare journal articles, conference presentations, technical reports, and project deliverables, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Engineering Physics, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field. The position requires strong experimental research experience in materials science or thin films, knowledge of thin-film deposition and semiconductor-related fabrication technologies, materials/device characterisation skills, independent problem-solving ability, and excellent English communication and writing skills. Experience with sputtering of CIGS solar cells, cleanroom environments, physical vapour deposition, atomic layer deposition, and technology transfer is valued.
INL offers a salary in the range of €37,000–€40,000 gross per year, along with relocation support, private health insurance, on-site guest house access for the first month, annual leave, sick leave, family and child allowances, and additional welfare-related benefits. INL also highlights its diplomatic and legal status as an intergovernmental organisation.
The application deadline is 2 November 2026 at 23:59 Lisbon time. Applications must be submitted in English through the online portal and include a cover letter, CV with references, diplomas, and degree recognition documentation where applicable.
