About this position
The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS in Warsaw, Poland, is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Laboratory of Molecular Basis of Cell Motility. The project is led by Dr Marta Gawor and is funded through a National Science Centre Grant OPUS.
The research project, titled “Myosin VI as a new regulator of nuclear biomechanics and chromatin organization in skeletal muscle”, explores a novel role for myosin VI in the mechanoreception of muscle cell nuclei and chromatin organisation, with emphasis on epigenetic and transcriptomic changes. The work connects cell motility, nuclear mechanics, chromatin regulation, and skeletal muscle biology, and may help clarify mechanisms relevant to diseases linked to defects in nuclear proteins.
The successful candidate will carry out scientific tasks in the project, contribute to dissemination through conferences and seminars, help prepare manuscripts and grant proposals, and provide scientific support to a collaborating PhD candidate. The position is embedded in an ambitious, international research environment with collaboration partners from the United Kingdom and access to cutting-edge research equipment.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in biology or a related field, obtained within the eligible NCN timeframe; if the PhD was earned at Nencki Institute PAS, additional documented research internship conditions apply. Candidates should have experience in cell and molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and ideally laboratory animal work, plus familiarity with imaging, transcriptomics, and biomechanical methods. English proficiency at B2 level or higher is required, along with publication record in JCR-indexed journals and strong teamwork and independent research skills.
Funding and conditions: the appointment is full-time, fixed-term, initially for 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 48 months total after positive annual evaluation. The monthly salary is approximately 12,400 PLN gross, with additional benefits such as medical insurance, Multisport card, social benefits fund access, sports and training support, life insurance, and holiday fund support.
Application deadline: 2 October 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw). Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected] with the note “postdoc_MG”, including a CV, cover letter, PhD diploma copy, contact details for two referees, and the required declarations. The posting also provides a project summary link and a laboratory website for more information.

Applicants should have expertise in cell biology and molecular biology, including mammalian cell culture, and experience with laboratory animals (mice) or willingness to acquire it. Selection will also consider experience in tissue/cell imaging, transcriptomics, and cell biomechanical tests. Fluency in English at minimum B2 level, publications in JCR-indexed journals, ability to work independently and in a team, to train and supervise students, and strong motivation, problem-solving ability, and good work organisation are required.
