About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher – High Harmonic Generation Beamline (332) at Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC), Czech Republic.

This postdoctoral opening is within the ELI Beamlines Facility, part of ELI ERIC, a major international research infrastructure for high-power laser science. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary environment focused on extreme light, ultrafast XUV science, and user beamline operation at the Dolní Břežany site in the Czech Republic.

The role combines independent scientific research with practical responsibility for the High Harmonic Generation (HHG) Beamline. Research topics include high harmonic generation, ultrafast laser physics, nonlinear optics, and coherent XUV applications. The post holder will develop and optimize HHG sources, diagnostics, and experimental methods, with attention to photon flux, stability, spectral quality, and beam performance. There is also scope to explore applications in ultrafast spectroscopy, imaging, materials science, and semiconductor research.

In addition to research, the postdoctoral researcher will take part in user operation of the beamline. Duties include preparing and running user experiments, helping external users with alignment, source optimization, data acquisition, initial analysis, troubleshooting, and contributing to beamline upgrades and new equipment commissioning. The position therefore suits a scientist who enjoys combining research with hands-on experimental development in a facility setting.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field; relevant experience in ultrafast laser physics, nonlinear optics, or XUV science; strong technical problem-solving skills; fluency in English; and the ability to work in an international team. Experience with HHG sources, high-power lasers, vacuum systems, XUV optics, detectors, and automated experimental control is considered an advantage.

The position offers a permanent, full-time contract, flexible working hours, a good working environment, career development opportunities, professional education, meal allowance, pension contribution, five weeks of holidays, six days of personal leave, and support for leisure activities. Applications should be submitted by email to Jana Ženíšková ([email protected]).

Deadline: 31 October 2026.

What's required

Ph.D. in physics, engineering or a related field is required. The candidate should have research experience in ultrafast laser physics, nonlinear optics, XUV science or a closely related area, with hands-on experience using optical setups employing femtosecond lasers or short-wavelength radiation sources. Strong technical and experimental problem-solving skills are needed, along with a willingness to participate actively in user operation and beamline maintenance. A strong scientific publication record, good communication skills in English, and the ability to work effectively in an international and multidisciplinary team are required. Experience with HHG sources, high-power laser systems, vacuum technology, XUV optics, detectors, automated experimental control, or operation of a user facility is an advantage.
