About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity at the University of Oulu, Finland
The Faculty of Education and Psychology, through the Learning and Educational Technology (LET) Lab, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on AI-supported technologies for collaborative learning and regulation of learning. The project sits at the intersection of learning sciences, human-computer interaction, software development, and human-AI collaboration, with a strong connection to the University of Oulu’s Hybrid Intelligence Research Programme.
The role focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based technologies that support self-regulated learning and socially shared regulation of learning in authentic educational settings. The successful candidate will help translate theory into technical solutions, including Python-based development, infrastructure planning, and evaluation of an existing agent architecture for collaborative learning support.
Key responsibilities include understanding backend and speech-processing pipelines, deciding what can be reused or rebuilt, advising on deployment options (server, local, or edge), documenting technical decisions for non-technical audiences, and aligning system development with study goals. The researcher will also design and conduct laboratory and in-situ studies, analyze multimodal data such as video and physiological signals, and publish findings in leading journals and conferences.
Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree in HCI, computer science, digital design, interaction design, edtech design, learning sciences, or a related field; degree obtained within the last 10 years; experience with research data collection, qualitative coding, quantitative analysis (R/SPSS, Python), and Python software development; familiarity with cloud-based high-performance computing; fluent English; Finnish is an advantage; teaching competence is required.
Funding and contract: fixed-term, full-time position from 15.11.2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 30.6.2028. Starting gross salary is approximately 3600–4200 EUR/month before taxes, plus a performance-based component. The post includes standard university staff benefits and a trial period of 6 months.
How to apply: submit the application through the University of Oulu recruitment system by 25.10.2026 at 23:59 Finnish local time. Include a CV, cover letter, publication list, certificates/diplomas, and contact details for two referees. Applications must be written in English.
