About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Macroeconomics and Political Economy at ETH Zurich, affiliated with the Chair of Applied Macroeconomics and the KOF Swiss Economic Institute.

This fixed-term postdoctoral opening is for researchers interested in applied macroeconomics, political economy, and empirical policy-relevant research. The chair works with macroeconomic, microeconomic, firm-level, household, geospatial, and international datasets, using modern econometric methods such as panel-data analysis, time-series econometrics, and causal inference.

Research areas of particular interest include monetary economics and central banking, business cycles and forecasting, fiscal policy and public finance, political institutions and economic policy, the economic consequences of globalisation, and related questions on inequality, economic freedom, and institutional determinants of economic outcomes. The position encourages both independent and collaborative projects, including possible overlap with Prof. Dr. Jan-Egbert Sturm and other researchers at the chair.

Applicants should have a PhD in Economics completed by the start date, a strong research record, solid training in econometrics, statistics, and quantitative analysis, and experience with a programming language such as Stata, R, or Python. Strong English communication skills are required; German is welcome but not required.

ETH Zurich offers internationally competitive employment conditions and a collaborative research environment at KOF. The starting date is negotiable. Applications must be submitted online by 2026-09-30 and should include a motivation letter, CV, a job market paper or representative paper, diplomas/certificates, and referee contacts.
