Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Macroeconomics and Political Economy at ETH Zurich (KOF Swiss Economic Institute, Chair of Applied Macroeconomics) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in empirical macroeconomics and political economy.

The post is based at KOF and affiliated with the Chair of Applied Macroeconomics in the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC). The chair’s research centers on empirical analysis of macroeconomic and policy-relevant questions using macroeconomic, microeconomic, firm-level, household, geospatial, and international datasets. The methodological toolkit includes modern econometrics, especially panel-data methods, time-series analysis, and causal-inference approaches.

Research areas of interest include monetary economics and central banking, business cycles and forecasting, fiscal policy and public finance, political institutions and economic policy, the economic consequences of globalisation, inequality, economic freedom, and broader institutional determinants of economic outcomes. The chair explicitly welcomes candidates whose interests overlap with these areas and who are keen to develop joint projects with Prof. Dr. Jan-Egbert Sturm and other researchers.

The successful candidate will pursue independent and collaborative research, produce original academic papers, design empirical analyses, present work at seminars and conferences, and contribute to the research life of the chair, KOF, and the wider ETH Zurich economics community. Limited teaching contributions may be included depending on interests and departmental needs.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in Economics by the time the position begins, a strong research record for their career stage, and solid skills in econometrics, statistics, and quantitative analysis. Experience with Stata, R, or Python is expected. Strong written and spoken English is required; German is welcome but not necessary.
