About this position
DIIS (Danish Institute for International Studies) is recruiting a 24-month postdoctoral researcher in Arctic security and defence, based in Copenhagen. The position sits within DIIS’s research on security and defence policy in the Arctic and the North Atlantic, with relevance for Greenland, Denmark, and broader transatlantic/NATO dynamics.
The postdoc can develop an independent project under one of two broad themes: (A) civil/military relations in the Arctic, including in-depth analysis of military presence in Greenland and related historical or comparative perspectives; or (B) defence policies and security dynamics in the Arctic, focusing on how states or international organizations engage with Arctic defence and security policy. The role also includes contributing to DIIS’s research environment, policy products, media outreach, and dissemination to stakeholders.
Research interests/keywords: Arctic security, defence studies, security studies, international relations, geopolitics, civil-military relations, Arctic governance, policy analysis.
Eligibility highlights: Applicants must hold a PhD before the start date. Strong research experience in Arctic studies and/or security studies is expected, along with a solid publication record, methodological competence for in-depth research, and good English. Kalaallisut is an advantage.
Funding and terms: Full-time employment for 24 months under Danish academic collective agreement terms. Salary starts at DKK 412,519–489,379 plus functional allowance and excluding pension; a personal supplement may be negotiated. Supplemental funding may be possible for fieldwork or research stays.
