Roskilde University’s Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE) is inviting applications for a PhD Fellow position linked to the research project The Maritime Knowledge HUB. The project title is “Governing the Green Transition in Shipping under Geopolitical Turbulence”, and it focuses on the policy process around the International Maritime Organization’s Net-Zero Framework.

The PhD project sits at the intersection of political science, public policy, public administration, international relations, and environmental governance. It examines how geopolitical tensions shape transnational and cross-sector collaboration among public and private actors, and how institutional conditions enable or constrain their ability to manage these tensions. The project should also engage with the green transition and decarbonization of shipping, regulation, political and administrative institutions, stakeholder collaboration, and maritime governance.

The candidate may develop an individual project within this framework while working closely with supervisors at Roskilde University and researchers in the Maritime Knowledge HUB. The project is expected to include, at least in part, a Danish perspective, for example involving the Danish Maritime Authority and Danish business organizations.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a relevant master’s degree or equivalent in social science fields such as public administration, political science, EU studies, international politics, or governance. Strong analytical ability, research potential, excellent English, and Danish proficiency are required. Training and conditions: the PhD is a 3-year full-time employment at Roskilde University. The position includes 30 ECTS of coursework, teaching and supervision experience, and a research environment change during the PhD period. Employment follows the Danish Ministry of Finance/AC agreement and the university’s academic job structure.
