About this position

McGill University’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Researcher in atmospheric moist convection, with a focus on cumulus life cycles, cloud microphysics, turbulence, and convective hazards.

The project aims to develop reduced but realistic models of cumulus life cycles that can support cumulus parameterization and/or machine-learning algorithms for short-term prediction of convective hazards. The work combines observational data from field campaigns, long-term deployments, operational satellite and radar data, and large-eddy simulations over large domains.

The successful candidate will build a quantitative conceptual understanding of the critical factors controlling cumulus life cycles, develop and evaluate new physical models, and publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. The position is based at Burnside Hall at McGill University.

Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a closely related field; experience with clouds and cumulus convection; strong understanding of cloud microphysical and turbulent processes; proficiency with Python, Matlab, or similar tools; evidence of scientific productivity and communication.

Funding: Full-time postdoctoral appointment with an annual salary of $62,000. The initial appointment is for one year and may be extended depending on performance and available funding.

Application window: Deadline to apply is 2026-10-31. Applicants should submit an up-to-date CV and contact information for three professional references through the McGill Workday posting. External candidates should follow the linked application guide; current McGill employees must apply through their Workday account.
