The successful candidate will work on the mathematical and computational foundations of Bayesian system dynamics, including knowledge integration, likelihood design, sampler behavior for long autoregressive time series, diagnostics, model comparison, sensitivity and identifiability analysis, and intuitive model interrogation. The role also involves developing and maintaining open-source Python scientific software and applying these methods to nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear fuel cycle problems.

Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, physics, engineering, operations research, or a related quantitative field; Ph.D. must have been earned within the last five years; degree requirements must be completed before the appointment starts. Strong Python and scientific computing skills are required, along with demonstrated Bayesian modeling experience and good communication skills.

Preferred background: PyMC, Stan, NumPyro, system dynamics or compartmental modeling, calibration with limited observations, automatic differentiation/JAX/PyTensor, gradient-based samplers, uncertainty quantification, open-source development, and experience in multidisciplinary research environments.
