About this position
Postdoctoral researcher in Biobased Polymers Synthesis at the University of Groningen (Netherlands).
This 2-year postdoctoral position is part of the Horizon Europe Pathfinder project SUSHI-PACK (Sustainable High-Performance Packaging from Seaweed and Regenerated Used Cooking Oils). The project focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of innovative bio-based polymers and polymer networks derived from regenerated waste oils and seaweed-based feedstocks for smart packaging applications.
The successful candidate will join the smart and sustainable polymeric product group within the chemical product technology research unit at the ENTEG Institute, under the supervision of Prof. Patrizio Raffa (Associate Professor).
Research keywords: polymer synthesis, polymer characterization, biobased polymers, sustainable packaging, materials science, organic chemistry, polymer networks, seaweed-based feedstocks, regenerated waste oils.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Polymer Science, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field; hands-on experience in polymer and/or organic synthesis; familiarity with characterization methods such as NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent English; and the ability to work independently in an international, collaborative environment. Experience with polycondensation chemistry is highly desirable.
Funding and conditions: full-time 1.0 FTE postdoctoral appointment for two years, with a gross monthly salary of €4,251 to €5,760, plus an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, 8% holiday allowance, 232 vacation hours per year, and opportunities for professional development.
