About this position

Postdoctoral opening at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg, Germany, in the newly established Phase Transition Engineering group led by Dr. Leif-Thore Deck.

The project focuses on biomolecular phase transitions with an emphasis on proteins and peptides: liquid-liquid phase separation, aggregation, amyloid formation, and crystallization. The work combines droplet microfluidics, fluorescence microscopy, bulk assays, theory/modeling, and process-scale experiments to quantify thermodynamics and kinetics such as phase diagrams, nucleation, and growth rates.

This is a hands-on experimental postdoc role for candidates with a PhD in chemical or bioengineering, biophysics, physical chemistry, biochemistry, physics, or a related field. Strong experience with microfluidics and biomolecule handling is expected, and programming/image analysis skills such as Python are a plus. The postdoc will also help establish the lab, contribute to a liter-scale precipitation platform, mentor PhD and Master's students, publish, present, and support grant proposals.

The position is a three-year contract with salary according to TVöD (Bund), E13, 100%. The institute also mentions support for international conferences and career development, and welcomes applicants interested in postdoctoral fellowships such as MSCA or Humboldt.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled. Apply through the online application portal with a motivation letter, CV, certificates, and reference letters.
