About this position
The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join the Nordcee group in Odense. The project focuses on the evolution of the carbon cycle over geologic time, with Raman spectroscopy as the primary analytical tool.
The successful candidate will work on detailed Raman analysis of carbon particles in ancient sedimentary rocks and on the analysis of modern marine and river sediments. The research uses Raman spectroscopy to determine the quantities and thermal maturities of recycled “petrographic” carbon in both modern sediments and ancient rocks.
This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates with a strong background in geology, particularly Precambrian geology, and experience applying Raman spectroscopy to ancient carbon in rocks. A background in stratigraphy is also considered beneficial.
Position details: Postdoc, 2.5-year appointment; start date in October 2026; location Odense.
Application deadline: 31 August 2026.
Contact: Professor Don Canfield (dec@biology.sdu.dk).
