About this position
CNRS is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in economics at the Laboratoire d'économie appliquée de Grenoble (GAEL) in Grenoble, France. The role is part of the European HealthRiskADAPT project, which addresses climate-related health risks such as heatwaves and air pollution and develops adaptation strategies for European cities.
The successful candidate will join GAEL’s Energy axis and work under the responsibility of Sandrine Mathy (CNRS Research Director). The research combines vulnerability assessment, adaptive capacity analysis, urban adaptation, health impacts of climate change, and the development of decision-support tools. The project includes pilot work in Naples, Oslo, Bern, and Lyon, with replication in additional cities.
Main tasks include developing risk indices for outdoor activities, analysing socio-economic vulnerability and adaptive capacity, designing a multiple-benefits module with cost and cost-benefit analysis, and contributing to demonstrations, impact assessment, and replication pathways. The position also involves data collection and analysis, scientific publications, project deliverables, and interaction with local and regional authorities.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in economics (or equivalent), experience in vulnerability assessment and/or climate-health impact assessment, strong quantitative skills (statistics, modelling, data analysis), and familiarity with tools such as R, Python, and QGIS/ArcGIS. Applicants should have scientific English and good French.
Funding: temporary full-time postdoctoral contract funded through Horizon Europe. The position starts on 1 Jan 2027. Deadline: 30 Oct 2026.
Apply via the CNRS job portal or consult the Euraxess listing for the application route.
