About this position

Stockholm University’s Baltic Sea Centre is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Coastal Ecology for a project examining how local, regional, and large-scale drivers shape coastal vegetation ecosystems and greenhouse gas turnover in Baltic Sea habitats.

The project focuses on coastal vegetation, benthic ecosystems, oceanography, climate variables, carbon sequestration, and restoration ecology. The research will use existing observed and modelled datasets to study temporal and spatial connections between open-sea conditions and coastal habitats, with the goal of improving scientific support for efficient management and restoration of coastal ecosystems in the Baltic Sea and beyond.

The postdoc will work on data collation and curation, spatial and/or time-series analyses, collaboration with researchers at the Baltic Sea Centre, and writing scientific papers for international journals. Outreach and dissemination are also part of the role.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in marine or freshwater ecology or a related field. Strong experience in numerical data analysis is important, and GIS/geographical analysis skills are an advantage. The ad also highlights experience with benthic ecology, familiarity with Baltic Sea or similar coastal systems, good English communication skills, teamwork, and relevant publications.

Employment is full-time for two years, with possible extension under special circumstances. The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and the application deadline is 9 August 2026.

Apply via Stockholm University’s recruitment system and submit a personal letter, CV, and any required attachments before the deadline.
