About this position
Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the NWO-funded project The Morphicon: A new gateway to morphological knowledge. The position focuses on computational linguistics, morphology, constructicography, and the study of Dutch word-formation.
The postdoc will join a small team working to build the first morphological constructicon for Dutch: a digital network of lexical constructions and grammatical constructions linked by shared properties. The role is especially suited to a computational expert who can help identify, evaluate, and develop digital tools, including LLMs, for classification, annotation, and network building.
Research themes include productivity in morphology, word-formation patterns, competing affixes, semantic and formal hubs/outliers, and frequency distributions. The postdoc will also carry out an independent research project and contribute to joint publications, workshops, conferences, and knowledge dissemination.
Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in linguistics before the start date; expertise in computational modelling of grammatical patterns; familiarity with Construction Grammar; native or near-native Dutch; excellent academic English; strong analytical and research skills.
Location: Leiden, Netherlands. Start date: after January 2027 (negotiable). Contract: 4 years at 0.75 FTE or 3 years full time. Funding: NWO project funding with salary and standard Dutch university benefits.
Deadline: 1 November 2026. Apply through AcademicTransfer and include a CV, publication list, cover letter, and two referees’ names, positions, and email addresses.
