About this position
KU Leuven is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in control and dynamic stability for converter-dominated power systems. The role is based in the ELECTA research group of the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT), within the EnergyVille-Etch environment, and is led by Prof. Jef Beerten.
The research focus is highly relevant to modern power systems and energy transition challenges: HVDC interconnections, offshore grids, long underground cable systems, grid-forming technologies, converter control design, small-signal stability analysis, impedance- and admittance-based methods, frequency-domain characterization, multi-converter interactions, EMT-based validation, and scalable modelling approaches bridging EMT and system-level studies.
This is a strong opportunity for candidates with a background in Electrical Engineering, power system dynamics, power electronics, and HVDC systems. The post requires a PhD degree and an excellent publication record. Experience with EMT simulation tools, frequency-domain modelling, real-time simulation, or hardware-in-the-loop environments is especially valued. The team also expects strong communication skills, mentoring ability, and the ambition to contribute independently to high-impact research.
