Indiana University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow / Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Health under the direction of Dr. Drew Capone in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health, Bloomington, Indiana.
The project is focused on environmental surveillance for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) circulating in wildlife, with emphasis on surface water and blow flies in Indiana. The role sits within a broader portfolio of environmental health microbiology and One Health research, including public health surveillance, microbial fate and transport, infrastructure and pathogen transmission, and quantitative microbial risk assessment.
Applicants should have a PhD in environmental health, environmental engineering, environmental science, microbiology, or a related field by the time of appointment. Desired experience includes molecular microbiology methods (nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, dPCR), metagenomic sequencing, bioinformatics, quantitative data analysis, and fieldwork/environmental sampling. Strong communication skills are important, and the lab welcomes candidates interested in mentoring students and developing independent research interests.
This is a USDA grant-funded position with three years of funding available, potentially renewable after the first year depending on performance and funding availability. The appointment includes benefits such as retirement contribution and health insurance, and salary is commensurate with experience.
