About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher in Epidemiology and Public Health at Linköping University, Sweden.
This is a postdoctoral research opening in epidemiology, public health, and medical science, with a strong focus on the prevention of cardiovascular disease and the causes and consequences of atherosclerosis. The project uses data from the national population-based SCAPIS study, combining advanced imaging of atherosclerosis with extensive information on health behaviours, risk factors, and cardiovascular health in around 30,000 middle-aged individuals.
The successful candidate will conduct epidemiological analyses, plan and run statistical analyses, interpret results, and write scientific articles. The role also includes work on a SCAPIS substudy examining the importance of health literacy and physical fitness for cardiovascular health and atherosclerosis development. There are opportunities to develop independent research questions and build an independent research profile within the programme.
Eligibility: a doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, medical science, or a closely related field is required. Strong quantitative research and statistical analysis skills are essential, together with the ability to independently process and analyse research data. Excellent spoken and written English is required. Experience with population-based or longitudinal epidemiological datasets is an advantage, as is prior research in cardiovascular health, prevention, or health behaviours.
Funding and employment: the position is funded by the Högbom-Cocozza Research Foundation. It is a full-time temporary appointment for three years. The foundation may also fund 6–12 months at a higher education institution abroad, and the postdoc may later apply for an independent research grant of about SEK 500,000.
Application deadline: 30 November 2026. Apply through the university’s online portal and attach selected publications electronically. If needed, printed publications must be mailed to the University Registrar so they arrive by the deadline.
