About this position
The Cryptography and Privacy Engineering Group (ENCRYPTO) at the Department of Computer Science, Technical University of Darmstadt, is offering a full-time postdoctoral researcher position in the ERC Consolidator Grant project Tools for Protecting Data and Function Privacy (PRIVTOOLS). The project focuses on applied cryptography and secure computation, with an emphasis on building practical methods to protect sensitive data and functions in real-world applications.
ENCRYPTO combines cryptographic theory with algorithm engineering to develop optimized protocols, tools, and open-source software prototypes. In PRIVTOOLS, the team works on composable protocols, optimizations, and tools using Multi-Party Computation (MPC), Private Function Evaluation (PFE), and Private Set Operations (PSO), including Private Set Intersection (PSI) and Private Set Union (PSU). The role is centered on research, design, optimization, implementation, and evaluation of efficient cryptographic protocols, as well as tools for automatic generation of such protocols.
The position is within a strong, international research environment at TU Darmstadt, a well-regarded university for IT security, cryptography, and computer science in Europe. The successful candidate will also contribute to project management, collaborate closely with doctoral researchers and student assistants, publish research results in top international venues, and support teaching activities such as the integrated course “Cryptographic Protocols” and supervision of thesis students.
Eligibility highlights include a completed PhD in applied cryptography or IT security (or completion by the start date), a relevant degree in computer science or IT security with excellent grades, several publications in top-tier venues, and experience in software development, project management, and student supervision. Excellent English is required; German is not required. Prior experience with MPC, PFE, PSI/PSU, compiler construction, or hardware synthesis is considered advantageous.
The appointment is initially for two years and starts as soon as possible. The application deadline is 8 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Berlin), with later applications potentially considered until the position is filled. Applicants must use the official web application system; email applications are not accepted.
