About this position

Warsaw University of Technology is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for an ERC Starting Grant project titled Lensless label-free nanoscopy (NaNoLens). The position is based in the Faculty of Mechatronics, within the Quantitative Computational Imaging (QCI) Lab and the Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics in Warsaw, Poland.

The project sits at the intersection of computational methods, optics/photonics, imaging technology, and the life sciences. The scientific goal is to develop deep UV lensless holotomographic nanoscopy for large-field, label-free, high-throughput live cell imaging, with a focus on improving resolution and reconstruction algorithms for biomedical applications. A key application is the study of extracellular vesicles in large live cell cultures with single-vesicle resolution.

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct excellent research, publish results in top optics, photonics, and bioimaging journals, present work at international conferences, and collaborate closely with the WUT QCI team and international partners. The role also includes co-supervising two PhD students and contributing to the development of a novel 2D/3D lensless nanoscope. The team works in a collaborative environment with expertise in coherent and incoherent imaging, holography, Fourier ptychography, differential phase contrast, and phase retrieval.

This is a temporary, full-time postdoctoral position supported by Horizon Europe / ERC Starting Grant. The contract may run for 12, 24, or 32 months, with a total income of up to 48,000 EUR gross per year. The project also provides support for scientific visits, conference attendance, laboratory and office purchases, and a strong international research environment.

Applicants should have a PhD in optics, physics, biology, computer science, engineering, or a related field, or a PhD defense already scheduled for September 2026. Required experience includes new imaging method development, optical setup implementation, biomedical sample work, lead-author publication experience, Matlab and/or Python, LabVIEW, and image/signal analysis skills. Strong English proficiency, independence, teamwork, creativity, attention to detail, and good social skills are expected.
