About this position
Tohoku University Graduate School of Engineering is recruiting a fixed-term researcher / postdoctoral-equivalent for the project “Extreme Performance Design Biology” in the Owaki Laboratory, Department of Robotics. The work is based in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and is part of an interdisciplinary research area that connects robotics, neuroscience, biology, biophysics, control engineering, information science, and mathematical science.
The position focuses on body-motor-sensory chimeras and sensorimotor systems of animals. Research activities may include attaching sensors and actuators to organisms, electrical stimulation, muscle activity measurement, motion measurement, VR-based experiments, robot experiments, data analysis, and mathematical modeling. The project aims to understand how organisms adapt to unknown physical and environmental changes and to translate those principles into robotics and artificial systems.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree or be expected to obtain one by the appointment date. The university seeks candidates with research experience in robotics, biology, neuroscience, biomechanics, control engineering, information science, mathematical science, or related fields, and who are willing to work across disciplines and collaborate actively with researchers and students.
The annual salary is 5 million to 7 million yen, paid monthly, with commuting allowance paid separately. Housing allowance, family allowance, year-end and diligence bonuses, and retirement allowance are included in the annual salary.
