About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher – FDSOI Devices for Neuromorphic Computing at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Peter Grünberg Institute – Semiconductor Nanoelectronics, PGI-9).

This postdoctoral opening focuses on neuromorphic computing, FDSOI devices, semiconductor device fabrication, electrical characterization, and TCAD simulation. The successful candidate will design, fabricate, characterize, and model novel fully depleted silicon-on-insulator devices for next-generation AI hardware, with a strong emphasis on proof-of-concept demonstrations and transfer toward practical applications in collaboration with a deep-tech startup.

The role offers access to state-of-the-art cleanroom and nanofabrication facilities, an internationally recognized research environment, and collaboration with academic and industrial partners. Responsibilities include process development, device optimization, data analysis, publication of results, conference presentations, interdisciplinary teamwork, and support for proposal writing where appropriate.

Applicants should hold a completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field; a PhD is considered an advantage. Required experience includes semiconductor fabrication/cleanroom processing and electrical characterization. Knowledge of TCAD tools such as Synopsys Sentaurus or Silvaco is desirable. English proficiency at least B2 CEFR level is required. Additional strengths include CMOS or neuromorphic device experience and a record of scientific publishing/presenting.

The position is fixed-term until 2028-06-30, with salary according to EG 13 TVöD-Bund. Place of employment is Jülich, Germany. Application deadline: 2026-09-06.
