Postdoctoral Researcher in Immunological Epigenetics Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS in Poland

The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS in Warsaw, Poland, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Laboratory of Immunological Epigenetics (Mikulski lab). This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral position at R2 level, focused on biological sciences and related disciplines.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international research environment working on immuno-oncology and epigenetics. The project addresses a key question in cancer biology: why some immune therapies are only partially effective, and how epigenetic and chromatin deregulation can drive immune evasion in cancer cells. The lab studies the regulation of immune-response loci, including interferon-stimulated genes, and applies chromatin biochemistry, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and expression analyses to uncover mechanisms of transcriptional repression and activation.

The postdoc will contribute to the OPUS29 grant, focused on discovering regulators of interferon-induced transcriptional memory using targeted methods and epigenomic screening. Main duties include de novo identification of regulators in selected cancer cell lines using CRISPR-interference-based high-throughput epigenomic screening, generation and selection of transgenic reporter lines, molecular cloning, preparation of plasmid and viral vector libraries, transformant identification and validation, mechanism-of-action studies, and data analysis including flow cytometry, gene expression analysis, and Illumina short-read sequencing. The role also includes preparing publications and presentations, participating in scientific discussions, collaborating with lab members, and mentoring junior team members.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, genetics, biomedicine, or a similar area, obtained within the last 12 years under NCN rules. The call requires basic experience in molecular biology or cell biology and at least two of the following: flow cytometry, CRISPR/CRISPR-interference genome engineering, high-throughput screening in cells, or mammalian cell culture. Strong English skills, independence, teamwork, organizational ability, and interest in gene regulation and epigenetics are important. Strong experience in (epi)genome engineering, molecular cloning, and cell transformation/selection methods is listed as an advantage. The candidate must also satisfy NCN mobility-related eligibility conditions, including having earned the PhD outside Nencki Institute or completing a qualifying research fellowship elsewhere.

Employment conditions include a 36-month contract (first contract for 6 months), gross salary of approximately 9,700 PLN according to NCN regulations, and a preferred start date from October 2026.
