About this position
The Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the IsoMuseomics (Stable Isotopes) project. The role is based in Helsinki, Finland and focuses on an interdisciplinary mix of stable isotopes, museomics, ecology, environmental science, and climate data.
The project combines genomic data from historical museum specimens with stable isotope analyses and environmental records to study historical dynamics of at-risk species, using Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) as a model system. The researcher will collect meteorological and phenological time-series data, build historical climate/environmental reference datasets, analyse nitrogen/carbon/hydrogen isotope data, interpret ecological patterns, and contribute to manuscript writing.
Applicants should hold a relevant doctoral degree and have experience with stable isotope data, independent research ability, strong communication skills, and excellent English. Preferred experience includes isotope work in insects, isoscapes or spatial isotope patterns, environmental or climate datasets, and quantitative/statistical analysis such as R.
The appointment is fixed-term for one year, with additional funding to be sought for extension. The starting salary is approximately 3400-3800 euros/month gross depending on qualifications and experience. The preferred start date is January 2027.
