About this position
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher position in metabolism, aging and stem cell biology in the research group of Assistant Professor Dr. Jette Lengefeld. The project addresses a major biological and medical question: how stem cell metabolism changes with age and how these metabolic shifts contribute to the loss of tissue regeneration and declining health later in life.
The project is Novo Nordisk-funded and also supported by the Swedish Research Council Starting Grant. It will run for two years, with a possible extension of up to two additional years. The work will take place at NEO in Flemingsberg, within Karolinska Institutet, in an international and interdisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art core facilities including cell sorting, microscopy, sequencing, mouse facilities, and clinical samples.
The research will use hematopoietic stem cells from mice to identify metabolic drivers of stem cell aging. Methods include flow cytometry, RNA/DNA sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, immunofluorescence microscopy, HSC transplantation, and assays across multiple organs. The broader aim is to understand how rejuvenating the blood system may influence systemic metabolism during aging and to explore ways to restore cellular function and extend healthspan.
Applicants should have a PhD in hematology, hematopoietic stem cell biology, aging biology, or a closely related area, plus at least one first-author publication in a recognized peer-reviewed journal. Strong experience with mice and Laboratory Animal Science certification are required, together with excellent English, strong analytical skills, familiarity with data analysis tools, and a collaborative, highly motivated research mindset. Experience with advanced flow cytometry, experimental stem cell biology, hematology, R, and statistics is especially desirable.
