About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Inorganic Chemistry at CNRS / École Polytechnique, in the Laboratoire de Chimie Moléculaire (UMR 9168) in Palaiseau, France.
This postdoctoral project focuses on organometallic synthesis, lanthanide chemistry, actinide chemistry, and the design of large aromatic ligands for f-block complexes. The research aims to study π-bonding and covalent interactions in rare-earth and actinide molecular systems, including the formation of multimetallic assemblies and possible phi-type metal-metal bonding. A further objective is to investigate reactivity with small molecules, especially dinitrogen activation and functionalization toward ammonia or amines.
The successful candidate will synthesize ligands and complexes under inert atmosphere, characterize compounds using X-ray diffraction, magnetism, EPR, NMR, UV-Vis-NIR, and infrared/Raman spectroscopy, and contribute to absorption spectroscopy and other collaborative analyses. The role also includes participation in international collaborations, with planned research visits to partner laboratories in the United States (including Georgia Tech and UC Berkeley).
Eligibility highlights: a PhD or equivalent in Chemistry or Physics; knowledge of organometallic synthesis and characterization techniques; practical skills in synthesis, NMR, and UV spectroscopy; and basic French. The post also involves supervising master’s and undergraduate students and helping maintain the synthesis laboratory.
The contract is full-time and temporary, with a start date of 1 Nov 2026. Application deadline: 25 Sep 2026.
