About this position
PhD opening at CNRS / Université Grenoble Alpes in the Department of Molecular Chemistry (DCM), within the EMPRe team in Saint-Martin-d’Hères, France.
The project focuses on molecular chemistry, electrochemistry, coordination chemistry, and cobalt catalysts for proton reduction and CO2 reduction. The thesis aims to develop tetra-aza macrocyclic Schiff-base ligands incorporating a pyridyldiimine motif, with second-sphere functionalization to improve catalytic efficiency, selectivity, and robustness.
The PhD student will study new cobalt complexes in homogeneous solution using cyclic voltammetry, electrolysis, spectroelectrochemistry, UV-Vis/NIR, EPR, and IR methods, and will help with synthesis and characterization of complexes. Product analysis will use gas and liquid chromatography. The work is linked to the SeRCO team and the ANR InnovMat project.
Eligibility: Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry; interest in coordination chemistry, molecular electrochemistry, and small-molecule activation. Experience in electrocatalysis is appreciated. Basic French is listed among the requirements.
Funding / contract: Temporary full-time PhD position, 35 hours per week. Start date: 1 Nov 2026. The post is not funded by an EU research framework programme.
