About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher in Mucosal Immunology based at the Department of Medicine, Solna in Stockholm, Sweden. The project sits in the Eduardo Villablanca research group within the Division of Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, with the principal investigator for the project listed as Elisabeth Nyström.

The research focuses on mucus biology, especially the role of O-glycan-mediated regulation of intestinal mucus function and differential glycosylation across epithelial cell subtypes. The work includes mapping and functional analysis of O-glycan sites outside the typical mucin domains of MUC2, using in vitro methods, bioinformatics analysis of published and in-house datasets, and functional validation with advanced imaging.

This is a strong fit for candidates with backgrounds in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, biomedical sciences, or related fields. Required experience includes O-glycan methodologies and theory. Helpful additional experience includes confocal imaging of whole tissue, mutagenesis and recombinant protein expression, omics analysis such as bulk or scRNA-seq or glycomics, and basic bioinformatics skills.

The position is a temporary full-time postdoctoral employment with monthly salary under KI collective agreements. No scholarship or tuition waiver is mentioned. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent by the employment decision date; a degree completed within the last three years is considered advantageous.

To apply, candidates must submit the required documents through the Varbi recruitment system: PhD certificate, complete CV/resumé, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work. The deadline is 8 September 2026.
