About this position
Postdoctoral researcher opening in multimodal AI for population health at the Machine Learning for Health team, Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), University of Helsinki.
The project focuses on using machine learning, data science, and deep learning to analyze large-scale, real-world health datasets and build multimodal health trajectories for early disease-risk detection. The team works with nationwide Finnish health data from 7 million individuals, including medication purchases, laboratory measurements, clinical notes, imaging, omics, and genetics. Research directions also include AI privacy and cross-border health AI across Nordic, Baltic, and European datasets.
This is a postdoctoral position for candidates with a PhD in computational biology, machine learning, computer science, data science, bioinformatics, or a related field. Strong Python skills, Linux/HPC or cloud experience, and familiarity with PyTorch and multimodal data fusion are highly desirable. The role involves model design, benchmarking, collaboration with clinicians and international partners, scientific writing, conference presentations, grant applications, and supervision of Master’s and PhD researchers.
The position is initially offered for two years and may be extended. Salary is approximately 3900–4100 euros/month depending on qualifications and experience, with standard University of Helsinki employee benefits. The application deadline is 2026-08-16.
