About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity in Neuroscience, Biology, and Psychology at the Anacker Lab, affiliated with Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) in New York City, United States.
The project focuses on the neural circuits of stress vulnerability and resilience, with emphasis on how early life adversity shapes hippocampal and corticolimbic circuit function to influence fear behavior and cognitive flexibility. The research uses mouse models of early life adversity and chronic adult stress, circuit tracing, projection-specific optogenetic and chemogenetic (DREADD) manipulations, in vivo Ca2+ imaging, neurotransmitter biosensor imaging, and behavioral paradigms in freely moving mice.
Responsibilities include stereotaxic surgeries for viral injections and optical fiber/GRIN lens implantation, mouse behavioral experiments in stress and cognitive tasks, projection-specific manipulations, imaging experiments, data analysis in MATLAB or Python, and contributions to manuscripts and grant development.
Required qualifications: a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field; strong rodent behavior and stereotaxic surgery experience; experience with viral circuit tools such as optogenetics and/or DREADDs; and proficiency with statistics and data analysis tools such as R, SPSS, GraphPad, MATLAB, or Python. The lab seeks a motivated, independent, organized researcher with interest in the neural basis of behavior and psychiatric disorders.
This is a full-time postdoctoral position. The post does not specify salary or stipend details. Applications are reviewed via email and/or the linked Nature Careers posting. Deadline listed on the source page: 10 Nov 2026.
