About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher in Neutral Atoms Applications at the Center for Quantum-Enabled Computing (C4QEC), Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland.

This full-time postdoctoral opportunity is part of a newly established center focused on quantum-enabled computing and its applications. The successful candidate will join the Neutral Atoms Applications Group led by Dr. Piotr T. Grochowski and contribute to research at the interface of quantum control, quantum simulation, quantum information, quantum optics, and hybrid quantum systems.

The group’s research agenda includes methods to model and control programmable quantum systems, especially neutral atoms in optical tweezers and Rydberg arrays. Possible topics include quantum state preparation, many-body dynamics, robust control under experimental constraints, and the role of atomic motion and hybrid degrees of freedom. A second major direction is the development of applications in quantum simulation, information processing, sensing, and networking, with attention to decoherence, imperfect control, and limited measurement capabilities, as well as validation and characterization of performance. Depending on the project, the methods may also be extended to related continuous-variable and hybrid quantum platforms.

The role includes implementing research tasks using analytical and numerical methods, co-supervising PhD and undergraduate students, disseminating results through papers and presentations, and participating in the scientific life of the institute through seminars and colloquia.

The position is offered in Warsaw, Poland, with a hybrid work arrangement. It is initially for one year with a possibility of extension until the end of 2029, subject to satisfactory performance. The monthly gross salary is 12,980–14,660 PLN, with full social security and health insurance. Additional benefits include support for conference and workshop participation, research visits, access to computational resources, flexible working hours, and a supportive and inclusive environment.

Eligibility requires a PhD in physics or a closely related discipline relevant to the research agenda. The PhD must have been awarded no earlier than 2021, unless eligible documented career interruptions apply. Candidates should have excellent English, a strong background in one or more relevant subfields, and ideally experience in analytical modelling, numerical simulation, scientific programming, or student supervision.

The application deadline is 8 November 2026 at 12:00 (Europe/Warsaw). Applications must be submitted by email with the reference number MAB/29/2026 in the subject line. Required documents include a CV, cover letter, one recommendation letter sent directly by the referee, proof of PhD or supervisor statement, and a signed data privacy statement.

Candidates should have very good English, a strong background in at least one of quantum optics, atomic physics, quantum information, quantum control, open quantum systems, or many-body physics, and experience with analytical modelling, numerical simulation, or scientific programming in quantum physics is an asset. Motivation, willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team, openness to collaborations and international networking, and experience supervising students are also valued.

How to apply

Send your application by email to [email protected] with reference number MAB/29/2026 in the subject line.
