About this position
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Postdoctoral Researcher in Pain Neurobiology and Somatosensory Electrophysiology at the Department of Molecular Neurobiology (MBB) in the Ernfors Research Group. The project focuses on the neuronal organization of pain pathways and the molecular mechanisms underlying acute and chronic pain, with an emphasis on somatosensory electrophysiology, whole-cell patch-clamp recordings, sensory neuron physiology, and translational pain research.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to projects studying the functional organization, excitability, and plasticity of pain pathways. The work may involve primary sensory neurons, neuronal cultures, in vitro/ex vivo preparations, mouse genetics, behavioral pain models, molecular profiling, transcriptomic/chromatin-based analyses, and human-relevant model systems.
Eligibility and requirements: a PhD (or equivalent) is required by the employment decision date. The post is aimed at candidates with a background in neuroscience, physiology, molecular biology, biomedicine, or a related field, plus hands-on electrophysiology experience. Strong English scientific communication, analytical ability, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively are important. Experience with DRG neurons, calcium imaging, rodent pain models, translational systems, and publication output are listed as advantageous.
Location: Solna, Sweden. Employment: temporary full-time postdoctoral position with monthly salary under KI collective agreements.
How to apply: submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system with CV, publication list, personal statement, and any required verification/reference letters. The deadline is 2026-09-09.
