About this position

École Normale Supérieure (ENS), through its Department of Cognitive Studies and the Interventional Neuropsychology Laboratory (NPI), is offering a postdoctoral researcher position focused on language and communication research with neurological adult patients.

The position is embedded in Charlotte Jacquemot’s team, a group that combines clinical research aimed at improving care for patients with cognitive disorders and fundamental research in cognition. The post is connected to the NPI laboratory, a joint research unit involving INSERM, UPEC, and ENS, with activity across the Institut Mondor de Recherche Biomédicale in Créteil, the Department of Cognitive Studies at ENS in Paris, and Henri Mondor Hospital.

Research responsibilities include the development of assessment and rehabilitation tools for pragmatic disorders in adults following brain injury or atrophy, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, and sickle cell disease. The role also involves administering tools with patients, evaluating their relevance for care, improving existing paper-and-pencil tools, and liaising with Dynseo, the company responsible for digitising cognitive tools.

More specifically, the postdoctoral researcher will lead and conduct research activities on language and communication; develop new tests and rehabilitation exercises; carry out patient testing in acute and post-acute vascular contexts as well as other neurological settings; collect and analyse data; and write scientific papers. The appointment is part-time (30 hours per week) and temporary, with a planned start date of 1 January 2027.

The post is suited to candidates with a PhD in cognitive sciences, speech-language pathology expertise, and strong experience in managing, assessing, and rehabilitating language and communication disorders in adult patients. The listing emphasises knowledge of pragmatic disorders and neurological disease, plus strong project management, reporting, and teamwork skills. Excellent written and spoken English and French are required.

The application deadline is 9 November 2026 at 08:00 (Europe/Paris). Applications should be sent by email to [email protected].
