Postdoctoral Researcher in Science-Policy Engagement and Climate Futures OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway

OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Science-Policy Engagement and Climate Futures in the academic unit Public Administration and Governance at Oslo Business School (Faculty of Social Sciences). The position is part of the ERC Consolidator Grant project CAMELOT, led by Manjana Milkoreit, and is based in Oslo, Norway.

The project explores how individuals, public institutions, and societies develop the capacity to anticipate and respond to long-term climate risks, including climate tipping points. Its core interest is in the cognitive, emotional, and social foundations of governance capacities, especially how imagination and future-oriented thinking can improve long-term climate governance. The role combines climate governance, political science, futures studies, sustainability research, and public policy.

The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in designing, implementing, and evaluating an innovative science-policy engagement process. The work will include climate modeling, role-play simulations, future storytelling, participatory workshops, surveys, participant observation, interviews, and qualitative/mixed-methods analysis. The research is collaborative and international, involving work across multiple European countries and engagement with policy makers, public institutions, national governments, city governments, and regional organizations.

This is a research-intensive postdoctoral appointment with strong opportunities to shape both the empirical and conceptual development of the project, co-author publications, and contribute to dissemination. The position is located at OsloMet’s Pilestredet campus in central Oslo, and residence in Oslo is expected.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in a relevant field is required; the dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation by the closing date, and the appointment depends on approval of the dissertation and public defense. Applicants should show experience with participatory research or stakeholder engagement, strong qualitative analytical skills, publication potential, teamwork, and fluency in English. Experience with mixed methods, participatory futures/foresight, interdisciplinary settings, and climate-related governance topics is an advantage.

Funding and terms: the position is ERC-funded and offered for three years with the possibility of a fourth year. Salary is stated at 584,500–745,000 NOK per year, with normal pension deductions applying under the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
