About this position
National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience is recruiting a Researcher / postdoctoral-equivalent fixed-term contract employee in the Water and Sediment Disaster Prevention Research Division, within the Extreme Weather Disaster Research Area, located in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.
This position is part of a project on weather observation and forecasting technology and disaster situation assessment using high-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The research focuses on developing a wind speed field estimation method using weather radar mounted on high-altitude UAVs, Doppler velocity simulation using numerical weather model outputs, and weather radar data analysis and quality control methods.
Relevant academic areas include Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Statistics. The post is especially suited to candidates with experience in scientific programming, radar/data analysis, and atmospheric or hydrospheric observation.
Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree is required (or expected before appointment); experience with C, FORTRAN, and Python on Linux/UNIX-like systems is required; and the ability to communicate research results in Japanese and English is required.
Funding and employment: full-time fixed-term contract, with annual income of approximately ¥4.7 million to ¥7.2 million basic salary (annual total stated as ¥4 million to ¥8 million).
