About this position

RIKEN is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher or Research & Development Scientist for the Accelerator Group at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science in Saitama, Japan.

The project focuses on the RIKEN RI Beam Factory (RIBF) upgrade program and the development of the Charge Stripper Ring (CSR), a unique accelerator concept for high-intensity heavy-ion beams. Research and development topics include the charge stripper system, electromagnet systems, vacuum systems, and beam diagnostic systems, with additional use of AI and data science for beam tuning and operational optimization.

This opportunity is aligned with physics, accelerator science, nuclear physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science. The post is a non-tenure-track contract role with an initial one-year term, renewable up to 5 years for the postdoctoral track or up to 7 years for the R&D scientist track.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a Ph.D. in a related field. Postdoctoral candidates are generally expected to have earned the doctorate within the last 5 years, while R&D Scientist candidates should have more than 5 years of research or practical experience.

Salary starts at about 4 million yen per year, with additional discretionary work, commuting, and housing allowances, plus social insurance. The position requires on-site work at the Wako Campus in Saitama.

Deadline: 2026-10-30 (JST). Start date: April 1, 2027 (negotiable). Apply through the RIKEN careers page and submit the required documents online.
