About this position
RIKEN’s Bioresource Research Center, Integrated Information Development Office is recruiting a Researcher / Special Research Fellow (postdoctoral equivalent) for a fixed-term position in Japan.
The project sits at the intersection of ecology, environmental science, mathematical informatics, and statistical science. The work focuses on integrating theoretical ecological and physical knowledge about ecosystem dynamics and developing methods and analysis platforms using energy terrain analysis, nonlinear time series analysis, reservoir calculations, causal inference from time series, and network analysis. The role also involves broader research and development tasks within the laboratory.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree. Special Research Fellows must have earned the PhD within the last 5 years, or be expected to complete it by the end of fiscal year 2026. Researchers are expected to have a doctorate plus at least 5 years of research experience. Strong interest in biological phenomena, high-dimensional dynamical systems, mathematical biology, or theoretical ecology is preferred. Experience with R or Python, parameter/model estimation, AI/ML implementation, English-language literature review, GitHub, AWS/GCP, C/C++, or Mathematica is welcome.
The position is based at RIKEN Tsukuba Campus, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It is a fixed-term contract with a one-year initial term, renewable until the project ends on March 31, 2029, subject to performance and budget conditions. Salary starts at around 4 million yen per year, with allowances and social insurance provided.
Application deadline: October 16, 2026. Apply via the official posting URL and submit the required electronic documents (resume and achievements list). Email inquiries may be sent to the contacts listed in the posting.
