Postdoctoral Researchers in Energy Geotechnology at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech)

Assistant Professor Mengwei Liu has joined the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, China, and is recruiting 1–2 postdoctoral researchers to join a new research group in energy geotechnology.

The group focuses on coupled processes in porous media using multi-physics approaches, with particular emphasis on X-ray CT, NMR, and numerical simulation including pore-network modeling. Research interests include understanding how pore-scale phenomena control macro-scale mechanical and hydraulic behavior, with applications to long-term geological gas storage, gas hydrates, and geologic hydrogen.

This opportunity is well suited to candidates with backgrounds in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, earth science, computer science, engineering, or related fields. The post is especially relevant for researchers interested in pore-scale physics, geomechanics, multi-physics characterization, numerical modeling, and energy-related subsurface systems.

Funding and benefits: the postdoctoral appointment offers a competitive package. The standard package is RMB 330,000+/year for 2 years, including Guangdong and Shenzhen allowances, plus social insurance, housing fund, and staff benefits. Outstanding candidates may apply for the President’s Fellowship, which can raise the salary to RMB 500,000+/year. Housing support is available through university public rental housing or a pre-tax housing subsidy, and academic travel funding is also included.
