About this position

Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Iowa in the Lung Biology and Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, working in the laboratory of Dr. Wenjie Yu and in close scientific environment with Dr. Michael Welsh and the Welsh group.

This postdoctoral opportunity focuses on lung biology, cystic fibrosis, chronic airway disease, airway remodeling, and the biology of airway submucosal glands. The Yu lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving remodeling in chronic muco-obstructive lung diseases, including CF, PCD, and COPD. Research approaches include human donor lungs, pig and mouse models, organoid culture, tissue explants, histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, live imaging, and single-cell/spatial transcriptomics.

The position is fully supported by a 5-year NIH R01 grant and offers the chance to lead a well-developed project on submucosal gland remodeling and mucus hypersecretion, while also developing independent research directions in lung biology and chronic airway disease.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in biology, biomedicine, or a related life science field; strong motivation for academic research; experience with histology, immunohistochemistry, cell/tissue culture, and animal models; productivity shown by first-author publications or manuscript drafts.

Deadline: December 1, 2026. Location: Iowa City, Iowa, United States.

How to apply: Submit the online application through the University of Iowa portal and upload a CV. Contact Wenjie Yu at [email protected] for inquiries.
