About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, in the Humam Kadara Laboratory (Department of Translational Molecular Pathology).

This is a lab-based postdoctoral opening focused on experimental lung cancer biology, tumor immunology, lung epithelial biology, and cancer prevention/interception. The lab studies how lung adenocarcinoma evolves from normal lung tissue through premalignancy to invasive cancer, with interests including injury-induced epithelial plasticity, KRT8-positive alveolar intermediate/progenitor cells, oncogenic KRAS signaling, inflammatory and immune microenvironments, tumor–immune co-evolution, and microbiome contributions to lung cancer pathogenesis.

Research approaches include genetically engineered and carcinogen-associated mouse models, lineage tracing, organoid and primary-cell systems, preclinical intervention studies, and single-cell/spatial profiling technologies. The fellow will work on mechanistic studies linking epithelial cell states, inflammatory injury, oncogenic signaling, and immune niches to early lung cancer development, and on strategies for mechanism-based prevention and interception.

Eligibility: applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, molecular/cellular biology, immunology, pulmonary biology, genetics, pathology, microbiology, or a closely related field. Strong experimental skills in mouse work, cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, microscopy, histology, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, and related methods are preferred. Research productivity and strong communication skills are expected.

Funding: full-time postdoctoral appointment with FY26 stipend support of $64,000–$76,400 depending on experience, plus benefits including medical insurance, paid leave, retirement enrollment, and other employee benefits.

What's required

Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, molecular or cellular biology, immunology, pulmonary biology, genetics, pathology, microbiology, or a closely related discipline. Candidates should have a strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, hands-on experience with relevant experimental approaches such as mouse models, animal procedures, mammalian cell culture, primary-cell or organoid systems, molecular biology, genetic manipulation, flow cytometry, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, or immunofluorescence, and the ability to design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments independently. Evidence of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications or strong manuscripts in preparation, and excellent organizational, collaborative, spoken, and written communication skills are expected. Experience with mouse models of cancer or tissue injury, lineage tracing, lung biology, tumor immunology, and preclinical therapeutic studies is highly desirable. Previous computational expertise is not required, but interest in high-dimensional molecular data is encouraged.
