About this position

Postdoctoral Scholar opportunity in evolutionary theory, plasticity, transgenerational plasticity, phenotypic plasticity, behavioral theory, and evolutionary modeling at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Professor Suzanne Alonzo (Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to Develop Theory on the Evolution of Plasticity. The scholar will develop evolutionary theory on transgenerational and phenotypic plasticity in response to parental cues, collaborate with empiricists testing predictions in threespine stickleback, and help train undergraduate researchers.

This is an NSF-funded postdoctoral position with salary estimated at $71,491-$79,727, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The project is a collaboration between UCSC and Ohio State University, involving undergraduate research opportunities and professional development activities at both institutions.

Eligibility highlights include a doctoral degree in evolution, animal behavior, or a related field; experience with mathematical modeling or related quantitative methods; and prior experience working with students. Strong candidates will also have experience with sexual selection, parental effects, and/or plasticity. Relevant empirical research experience is desired but not required.

Application window: full consideration for completed applications by 2026-09-07. Anticipated start date is between 2026-09-01 and 2027-01-15.
