About this position
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University is seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar in Materials Science and Engineering. The position focuses on advanced structural materials and additive manufacturing, with research on Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) of steels, heat treatments, and mechanical testing.
The scholar will design and perform experiments, characterize microstructure using SEM, EBSD, TEM/STEM, STEM-EELS, in-situ TEM, and in-situ X-ray diffraction, and evaluate phase transformations and microstructure-property relationships. The role also includes data analysis, report writing, publications, presentations, collaboration with research partners, safe laboratory operations, student mentoring, and proposal development.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Materials Engineering or a related field is required; a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field is preferred. Applicants should have research experience in additive manufacturing of martensitic steels, microstructural characterization, mechanical behavior, experimental design, and scientific communication. Desired experience includes metal PBF-LB, heat treatment, phase transformations, TEM/STEM, in-situ TEM, STEM-EELS, EBSD, in-situ XRD, fatigue, fracture toughness, and nanoindentation.
Location: Columbus, United States (Edison Joining Technology Center). This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral appointment. No deadline was stated in the post. Applications are submitted through the Ohio State Workday portal.
