About this position

Yale University’s Department of Neurosurgery at Yale School of Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar for research on the pathogenesis and translational research of neonatal Paenibacillus infection. The position is based in New Haven, Connecticut, United States, and is an in-person, full-time postdoctoral appointment.

The project sits at the intersection of microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, neuroscience, infectious diseases, computational biology, organoid biology, animal models, microbial genomics, and translational medicine. The research program aims to understand how Paenibacillus contributes to neonatal sepsis and postinfectious hydrocephalus, and to develop practical diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, especially for resource-limited settings.

The scholar will work with human brain organoid models, animal models, immune studies, next-generation sequencing, and multi-omics workflows. Responsibilities include investigating host–pathogen interactions, tissue tropism, disease progression, and therapeutic interventions; contributing to affordable point-of-care diagnostic assay development; collaborating across Yale and international partner institutions; and helping prepare manuscripts and grant applications.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field. Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or tissue-derived organoids, experience with murine or other animal models, and computational proficiency in R, Python, or related languages are required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are also expected.

The appointment is for one year with a possible one-year renewal, starting around December 1, 2026. Salary follows Yale postdoctoral compensation policies and is commensurate with experience; Yale benefits are included. Conference travel and professional development support may be available.

To apply, email a CV, a cover letter describing research interests, relevant experience, and career goals, and three professional references to Marwan Osman at [email protected]. Review of applications begins immediately.
