About this position

Postdoctoral Scholar: Population genetics and epigenetics in the Atlantic Sea Scallop at the University of Washington (School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences), in collaboration with Dr. Samuel Gurr at Hatfield Marine Science Center, Oregon State University.

This full-time postdoctoral position focuses on population genetics, population genomics, epigenetics, chromatin accessibility, transcriptomics, and bioinformatics. The successful candidate will lead analysis of a multi-omics dataset from wild Atlantic sea scallop populations spanning the Mid-Atlantic Bight to the northern Gulf of Maine, using a chromosome-level genome assembly to study population structure and regulatory control of transcription under warming and acidification stress.

The project connects marine genomics with fisheries management and adaptive responses in a commercially important species. The postdoc will work in the Gurr Lab at Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon, alongside postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates, with opportunities to present at conferences, contribute reports to stakeholders, mentor students, and publish the scallop genome and multi-omics findings in peer-reviewed literature.

Eligibility: PhD or foreign equivalent in Biology, Molecular Genetics, Fisheries Science, Statistics, or a related field. Applicants should have experience with basic laboratory techniques, large-scale NGS data analysis, and strong scientific communication skills. Desired background includes statistics, genomics for fisheries or natural resource management, and interest in genetic adaptation and epigenetic regulation.

Funding: Salary is $5,705–$8,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The appointment is for 12 months with a possible second-year reappointment depending on performance and funding.

Application: Apply through Interfolio by 2026-09-13. Submit a cover letter, CV with bibliography, up to three manuscripts, and three academic references. If your PhD is not yet conferred, include an official letter confirming completion of degree requirements and the conferral date. Visa sponsorship is not available.
