About this position
Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Israeli Humanities and Social Sciences at the Israel Institute.
This call supports Israeli scholars seeking multi-year postdoctoral teaching placements at leading American universities. The fellowship is designed for rising scholars who want to bring their research into U.S. classrooms, build academic networks, publish, and strengthen their profile through a three-year appointment.
Research/teaching focus: Israeli humanities and social science topics, with courses that are Israel-focused. Fellows teach at least four undergraduate courses per year, and at least three of those courses must focus on Israel. Courses may be in any discipline, but to count as Israel-focused, at least 60% of the topics and readings must be about Israel.
Eligibility highlights: Applicants must be Israeli scholars with strong English skills, a fully conferred doctoral degree before July 31 of the year they begin, and demonstrated expertise in Israel through a dissertation or at least two peer-reviewed publications about Israel. The program is selective and requires a host university invitation/placement process approved by the Institute.
Funding: The fellowship is described as fully funded for a three-year grant. At public universities, support can cover up to the average postdoc salary in the relevant department, with possible additional support for university health insurance. At private universities, funding may be lower and may not cover full salary or health insurance. Fellows should expect to cover living expenses, taxes, travel, bench fees, and other personal costs.
Application materials: high-resolution headshot, short bio, academic CV, dissertation abstract in English, a list of courses taught or teachable about Israel, and two course outlines.
Deadline: August 26, 2026 for placements starting in Academic Year 2027–2028.
Institution: Israel Institute
