About this position

Postdoctoral opportunity in Chemistry at the University of Vienna

The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is recruiting a University Assistant Postdoctoral in the Department of Physical Chemistry, working in the research group for Chemical Sensing and Rapid Analysis. The project is centered on biomimetic sensing and the design and use of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP), combining fundamental materials research with analytical and physicochemical methods and applications close to commercialization.

The position is a 3-year fixed-term postdoctoral appointment (part-time, 20 hours/week). The postholder will build an independent research profile in sensing/assay formats using MIP, contribute to research projects on solid-phase synthesized MIP, publish internationally, teach courses, apply for projects, and support administration and quality assurance. The role offers an international academic environment, flexible working arrangements, and access to extensive internal training and coaching.

Eligibility highlights: completed PhD in chemistry, outstanding dissertation, strong knowledge of chemical sensing, excellent English (C1), and desirable experience in research management, project leadership, e-learning, Python/data analysis, MIP synthesis and characterization, basic German, and mass-sensitive measurements.

Funding: gross salary EUR 5,014.30 (full-time equivalent, paid 14 times per year), adjusted for experience and part-time workload.

Application deadline: 15 September 2026.

How to apply: Submit a scientific CV/letter of intent, publication list, one-page research-interest summary, doctoral degree, and reference contacts through the university job portal.
